The main aim of this course is to help trainees use the Harmonized System (HS) Nomenclature in a consistent and effective manner and thus facilitate the classification of internationally traded goods.
Objectives:
- Provide trainees with a general introduction to the Harmonized System and a methodology to navigate the HS Nomenclature and classify commodities.
- Introduce trainees to the main categories of commodities included in various Sections of the HS Nomenclature and the approach to their classification.
- Explain some of the most frequent and common challenges encountered by HS users when classifying commodities of various categories.
- Equip trainees with the knowledge of WCO standards on the organization of tariff classification work required to apply the Harmonized System Nomenclature correctly.
It should take around 6 hours to complete the course.
This course was developed under the framework of the EU-WCO Programme for Harmonized System in Africa (HS-Africa Programme), funded by the European Union.
The HS Foundation Course course can be used in conjunction with the WCO HS Advanced Courses containing more detailed information with regard to the scope of individual Sections and Chapters of the Harmonized System.
